Technical University of Moldova

Technical University of Moldova (TUM) is the only higher technical educational institution in our country, accredited by the state. Since its foundation in 1964 it trained about 55 740 engineers.

TUM has 10 faculties: "Energetics", "Engineering and Management in Machine Building", "Engineering and Management in Mechanics", "Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics", "Radioelectronics and Telecommunications", "Technology and Management in Food Industry", "Textile Industry", "Cadastre, Geodesy and Constructions", "Urbanism and Architecture", "Economic Engineering and Business". Within the Faculty of Engineering and Management in Machine Building there is the Technical College. There are also affiliated to TUM 9 technical colleges.

 

 

The training of those 14.000 students of the full time and correspondence section is supervised by 775 teaching staff, two thirds of them having scientific titles of Academician, Professor, Associate Professor, Doctor of Science, Philosophy Doctor. The engineer staff of laboratories, workshops, computer centres, etc., consists of about 360 persons.

TUM offers courses for about 80 specialties and specializations, preparing engineers for almost all branches of the national economy. University studies at TUM are organized on the basis of the European system of transferable academic credits ECTS. This system permits the diplomas to be compatible with those of the European countries. As a result, the students and the specialists have the possibility to activate in European area.

 

   

In order to cope with the demands of the market economy TUM modernized the conception of training of engineers by completion the list of subjects with some economic-managerial subjects and by teaching of foreign languages (English, French, German, Spanish). The economic-managerial subjects help the engineer to begin an own business. About 75 per cent of those 60 000 businessmen from Chishinau are TUM's graduates.

There are also at TUM sections with special groups where all subjects are taught in one foreign language. Within The faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics there is the Francophone section "Informatics" and the English section "Computer Science and Electronics". Within the Faculty of Technology and Management in Food Industry there is the Francophone section "Food Technologies". The students from these sections attend linguistic and specialized courses in USA, French, Canada, Germany, etc. Many of them prepare their graduation paper; the best students continue Master's degree and Ph. D. postgraduate courses in these countries.

TUM's students do their practice at state and private enterprises in our country, according to the bilateral contracts. Each year hundred of TUM's students do their practice in other counties, which TUM cooperates: Romania, Russia, Ukraine, French, Italy, Germany, USA, Canada, Anglia, Czech, Turkey, Belgium, Slovakia, etc.

Scientific investigations have an important part in university activity. The students also take active part in scientific investigations, improving their knowledge.

TUM win always the first places at the "Infoinvent" exhibitions, organized every year in our country, as well as at the international exhibitions. During last years TUM won about 30 golden medals. It also obtained a lot of silver and bronze medals, being mentioned for many times.

TUM cooperates with more than 50 universities and scientific centers from different countries. There are organized regularly international scientific conferences and symposiums.

TUM is a member of the Universities' Network of the Black Sea Region, which consists of 11 countries of the Regional Economic Cooperation. So, TUM takes part from the university area, which will become the unique university area of the whole Europe.

Sport and artistic activity has an important role in university life. The factors that contribute to the sport's developing are increasing year by year: are built modern sports grounds, sports gyms; students are trained by the best specialists. TUM participates in all that 18 sport competitions of the republican students' sports competition and wins always the first places.

There are also at TUM artistic groups. TUM's Fanfare wins always the second place after the Presidential Fanfare of the Republic of Moldova.

During 4-5 years of university studies the students can get knowledge, according to the high standards. TUM's graduates are involved in all branches of the national economy; they contribute to the completion of the administrative structures of our country.
